The SENEME Scholarships and Awards Committee is responsible for establishing the criteria for, and awarding of, scholarships/awards to the general membership.

Awards

NMEA Conference Scholarship

The SENEME Board of Directors established this scholarship program to assist members in attending the annual NMEA National Conference. One full conference registration scholarship will be awarded to a SENEME member in need of financial assistance. The annual SENEME Auction held at the Fall Conference provides the funding for the scholarship.

The scholarship award is based on financial need of the applicant. Geographical location and order of receipt of the completed applications are not considered in the decision to award the scholarship. Applicants must not be a SENEME Officer, voting member of the Board of Directors, and must not have been awarded the scholarship for the past two Conferences.

SENEME Fall Conference Scholarship

In order to assist members in attending the annual SENEME conferences, one full registration will be awarded to a SENEME member in need of financial assistance. The scholarship award is based on financial need of the applicant. Geographical location and order of receipt of the completed applications are not considered in the decision to award the scholarship. Applicants must not be a SENEME Officer or voting member of the Board of Directors, and must not have been awarded either of the scholarships for the past two years.

Mini-Grant for Classroom Teachers

The annual SENEME Mini-Grant Award will provide up to $500 to help "make known the world of water, both fresh and salt." The SENEME Board of Directors established the mini-grant program in 2004 in order to assist members in purchasing equipment and/or supplies for their classroom.  SENEME Auctions held at the Fall Conference provides the funding for the mini-grant.

Applicants must be a SENEME member and a classroom teacher, and must not be a SENEME Officer or voting member of the Board of Directors. Applicants that have been awarded a mini-grant within the past two years are not eligible for this year's award.

SENEME Marine Educator of the Year

For effective and innovative teaching, and/or distinguished performance by either a classroom teacher or professionals who are not classroom teachers. This nomination requires completion of a nomination form and a letter of recommendation from at least one active SENEME member. Recipient receives one-year membership to SENEME and registration to the annual Fall Conference.

SENEME Life Member

Life membership is the highest recognition the Association offers and is reserved for those individuals who have demonstrated a distinguished career in teaching, research or service in marine education. This nomination requires completion of a nomination form and letters of recommendation from at least three active SENEME members. The Awards Committee will present its recommendation to the SENEME Board for consideration. Upon endorsement by the majority of the Board, the successful nominee shall be declared a Life Member and will receive lifetime membership in SENEME.
