Virtual Resources

As the world changes before our eyes, so must education! Below you'll find a list of online resources that may help you and your students experience marine science virtually.

Please contact us if you would like to be added to this list!

The Maritime Aquarium has revised its regular STEM-based, standards-fulfilling educational programming into a selection of online offerings that teachers can use as they adapt to distance learning.

The programs will be streamed live to allow for questions and answers and for adaptations to specific curriculum needs. The programs also can be recorded for later viewing; for example, by a student who missed the live stream. Looking for programs in Spanish? The Maritime Aquarium now offers several programs completely in Spanish! Public programs are also available.

The NESS Team is thrilled to offer a new platform to our school partners and students. All Online Experiential Learning (OEL) classes are done live and are instructor-led courses. Lessons are based on NESS’s accredited on-campus learning and meet Next Generation Science Standards and Ocean Literacy Principles.

Featuring the unique experiential learning that sets NESS apart, these dynamic courses are designed to support the continued education of students, minimizing learning losses, and keep students engaged and hands-on in their education.

Mystic Aquarium E-Learning: This school year, classrooms are a mix of in-person learning and virtual connections. That is why we are offering Mystic Aquarium Digital – a collection of specially-curated educational resources to help support and supplement your educational needs, no matter what they may be. Discover different structured lessons through virtual class and multi-part programs, enjoy a virtual animal encounter, expand your engagement in citizen science activities and tune in to our social platforms daily for fun and educational content. E-Learning - Mystic Aquarium

Additional Opportunities:

GSO’s Ocean ClassroomOcean Classroom is an education and outreach extension of URI's Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO) that brings current and relevant ocean science research to K-12 and public audiences. Ocean experts present programs in schools, virtually, outdoors at field locations and here on the URI Narragansett Bay Campus.
