Horseshoe Crab Webinar and Walk


Join SENEME in a fun event all about Horseshoe Crabs (Limulus polyphemus). The day will start with a Zoom Webinar with Jo-Marie Kasinak, the Project Limulus Outreach and Education Coordinator who will speak on why this ancient animal is important to our ecosystems, what the project has learned from their data over the years, and educational materials available to school teachers, and informal educators.

Once the Zoom event is done, join some of our SENEME Board and organizational members to go on a hunt to find these beautiful creatures. Be prepared to walk long distances, over rocks and get your feet wet as we search for crabs. 

Walks will be held at the following locations and times:

9:00am Webinar: Zoom details provided with registration confirmation

11:00am Napatree Beach, Westerly, RI (Access to Napatree will be by boat and an additional fee will apply). Minimum of 10 people, max of 14.

12:00pm Circle Beach/Grass Island, Guilford, CT. Minimum of 5 people, max of 20.

1:00pm Sherwood Island State Park, Westport, CT. Minimum of 5 people, max of 20.

Social distancing will be maintained, and masks will be required during in person walk. 

  • Event is free with a suggested donation of $5.00 / per family for members, $10.00 / per family for non-members. 
  • Napatree will be accessed by Boat from New England Science & Sailing in Stonington, CT. There is an additional fee for this location.
  • Event is rain or shine, severe weather postpones to June 26th.
